Government of Andhra Pradesh functions as Chairman, the Secretary to Government, Education Department shall act as Vice Chairman, the Director, APOSS is the Member Secretary at State level while the District Collector functions as Chairman and the District Educational Officer acts as Member Secretary at District Level to the Open School State and District Executive Boards. The APOSS carries its programmes through a network of study centres (AI centres) identified in Govt./Local Body/Recognized High Schools and Junior Colleges. S.S.C.:
The SSC course offered by APOSS is equivalent to SSC course (Class X) of formal system. To obtain admission in SSC course one has to complete 14 years of age by 31st August of year of admission and submit a self declaration that he/she is capable of studying SSC course.
A learner can opt for sixth subject either from Group 'A' or Group 'B'.
To successfully complete the SSC course one has to pass a minimum of five subjects with a minimum of 35% marks in each subject.

The Intermediate course offered by APOSS is equivalent to the formal Intermediate course / Senior Secondary/ +2 course of Formal Boards.
One has to pass SSC/10th Class/Secondary course to get admission into the Intermediate course besides completed 15 years of age by 31st August of year of admission.

A learner has flexibility to select his/her choice of subjects from the list of subjects given under Group 'A' and Group 'B' i.e., one or two languages under Group 'A' and three or four subjects under Group 'B' totaling five subjects.
Learners have also option to select Sixth subject as per their choice either from Group 'A' or Group 'B'.
One has to pass a minimum of five subjects to declare him/her as pass with a minimum of 35% marks in each subject.
